Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
